SERVICES: Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a great diagnostic test, as it is non-invasive and non-painful.

How does it work?  Fur is gently shaved, and special gel is applied to the skin.  A handheld transducer is placed on the gel.  Sound waves from the transducer bounce off various organs in the body, then travel back through the transducer.  Resulting images are sent to the viewing monitor for interpretation.

Ultrasound can be used to evaluate your pet’s heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, bladder etc. It can also be used to determine pregnancy or monitor an ongoing pregnancy. Ultrasound can detect fluid, cysts, tumors or abscesses.

When your pet requires ultrasound, you will be pleased to know they are under the care of a veterinarian with advanced training.  Dr. Cam Friesen provides mobile ultrasound imaging.  He transports advanced ultrasound equipment to our hospital to provide this important service.  Shortly after the ultrasound evaluation, our veterinarian receives a summary of the findings on your pet, and further diagnostic testing or treatments can be planned.
